There's almost no opportunities for harassment. It's the same game almost every single time. Pretty much you have infantry skirmishes, then mid tier you might rock an armored car or half track, then late game you both bring out your tanks. There's no real way to get creative with your build or tech path. It's simply build my stuff, go out onto the map and try to win all the small battles along the way while points slowly trickle down. How well can I keep the map scouted to make sure the opponent doesn't have 3 expansions, leading him to running me over economically?ĬOH style games have none of this. When do I expand? Can I stop my opponent from expanding? Do I skimp my econ to rush out units, hoping to catch a greedy opponent off guard? Do I play it safe? Do I want to focus on a specific tech path this game because the meta is this thing, and my opponent won't expect me to do that thing? These COH style of games rob the RTS genre of all of the infrastructure that makes up the actual strategy still present in turn based games. The actual strategy started before you even loaded into the game: The build order you planned to do. In classic RTS games, the actual encounter with enemy units was only half of what you had to think about. Technically RTS, yes, but with half the strategy and way slowed down combat. It was a bit of a mess at launch.īut, these style of games are like RTS light in my mind. It wasn't near the game it is now on release, if you remember back then. The point is that COH2 has had 7 freaking years to polish it up.
The point isn't what stage of development this game is in. Originally posted by Lebowski Poos:ppl defending it as a beta when release is next month hahahahaha! If it isnt any good now it won't be any good on sep 1st I think it’s very ignorant to do so but to each their own in respect to how they see things & yes some will get it while others won’t. But no way would I ever dismiss CoH 2 being Top of the Class so to speak with respect to the RTS genre as a whole. Other than that it will be personal preference & opinion. We could use sale numbers, number of players still playing on a daily basis, and the creative content from the game's modding & map making community as a basis. If you're more of an old school fan you will surely come up with something different like C&C RA 2, C&C Generals, SC 2, WC 3, etc. I refer to my previous post with the two main Resource Gathering RTS Categories though. Without bias it can be considered "One of the Best" and I have pretty much played them all. You need to play more rts' if you think that. Graphics lees detail like smoke effect, destruction building, grass, weather and moreĬOH 2 still the best and the winner RTS games, hope developer reproduce Iron Harvest before release Lol COH2 is not the best rts. Soldier can't throwing grenade, smoke or flashbang Soldier not taking down or take cover during under attack or contact Vehicle walk same like soldier with more weight
Can't upgraded soldier class and upgrade weapon Originally posted by VTG1800:In Iron Harvest. Just imagine all the awesome factions from the 40K Universe playing like CoH 1&2. Then comes along DoW 3 and BOOM another off path attempt to change a formula that worked so well. The Relic Devs even stated the difference in that they developed DoW 1 around the MP/Skirmish and it showed. It's amazing how Relic went off path developing DoW2 around a single player RPG like experience only to throw together the MP/Skirmish aspect at the tail end of development which was very watered down compared to CoH 1 & even DoW 1. They are both the top of their class if we can classify them as such into 2 categories or streams of an RTS/RTT Resource Gathering strategy game.įor me CoH 1 was the true spiritual successor to DoW 1 took the game formula & added to it to make it better. They both have excellent pacing & no way would I say one is better than the other in respect to the overall RTS genre, but for me the CoH style (New School formula) beats the Old School formula. You cant compare StarCraft II and Coh 2, these games are too different.
